History
The Spa town of Salsomaggiore, was
born in the beginning of the XIX century due to the merit of its local
doctor, Doctor Lorenzo Berzieri ( who's name has been given to the
'Terme Berzieri' monuments, world famous for their unique liberty style
rich with wavy, oriental designs), who was the first to experiment the
therapeutic capabilities of the salsobromoidic waters, recognized and
used right from the ancient times for the extraction of salt, curing a
little girl's serious form of 'osteitus', who was clinically diagnosed
as incurable. From then onwards the little "Borgo del Sale", as the town
was once called, therapeutically made use of its water..
